The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has issued arrest warrants against former lawmaker Shamim Osman and 11 others in a crimes against humanity case.
The case was filed over the killing of 10 people, including Riya Gope, in Narayanganj during the July uprising last year.
The ICT-1 passed the order after taking the charges into cognizance on Monday. It also ordered the police to produce the accused on 26 January.
Before the tribunal order, the prosecution had filed formal charges with the ICT-1 against the 12 accused.
According to the charges, on 19 and 21 July in Narayanganj, Shamim Osman and his followers, wielding weapons, took to the field against students. They allegedly planned at the Narayanganj Club to suppress the movement, looted all the weapons from the Rifles Club, and attacked the students.
It is further alleged that, following a phone conversation with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Shamim Osman took part in the attacks. In total, three charges have been brought against them.
Shamim Osman is a former MP for the Narayanganj-4 constituency. His son, Imtinan Osman Ayon, also known as Ayon Osman, has been named as an accused in the case.
On 19 July, Riya gope who was playing on the rooftop of a five-storey building owned by Deepak Kumar near Gulshan Hall was seriously injured after being shot in the head.
She was initially taken to Victoria Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on 24 July.
