The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) and the Department of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS) of Jagannath University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dhaka on 17 June 2026 to strengthen collaboration between academia and the professional sector, said in a press release. The agreement was signed at the ICSB Council Room in the capital on Wednesday, aiming to promote joint initiatives in education, training and research.
The MoU was signed on behalf of ICSB by Rafiqul Islam FCS, Senior Vice President and President (In-Charge), while Jagannath University was represented by Professor Dr Shamsun Nahar, Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS). The signing ceremony was attended by senior academics and professionals from both institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to developing industry-ready graduates.
The partnership is designed to enhance cooperation in professional education, research collaboration, training programmes, knowledge exchange and capacity building. Officials said the initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice while strengthening governance and corporate capability in Bangladesh.
From Jagannath University, Professor Dr Sabina Sharmin, Treasurer, and Professor Dr Md Ali Noor, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, attended the event. From ICSB, Md Sharif Hasan FCS, Vice President, and Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun FCS, Council Member and Member of the Education Committee, were present.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the growing importance of academia-industry collaboration in preparing future professionals with technical skills, ethical grounding and leadership capacity to meet evolving corporate sector demands. They said such partnerships are essential for strengthening the national talent pipeline.
Both organisations expressed confidence that the MoU will open new avenues for collaborative research, professional development programmes, student engagement and initiatives to promote good governance and corporate excellence in Bangladesh.
The signing ceremony concluded with the exchange of documents and an official photo session. The event was moderated by Md Shabbirul Alam Chowdhury, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ICSB.
ICSB, established under the Chartered Secretaries Act 2010, is the only recognised professional body in Bangladesh responsible for developing, promoting and regulating the chartered/company secretaries profession.
