The International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB) organised a day-long workshop on “International Trade Financing following LDC Graduation” in Chattogram on Saturday, aiming to prepare banking and business professionals for challenges emerging after Bangladesh’s graduation from the least developed country (LDC) category.
The workshop, conducted by Prof Dr Shah Md Ahsan Habib of the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM), brought together 63 participants from 19 banks, including 12 clients nominated by Eastern Bank and Prime Bank, ICCB said in a press release.
Mohammed Amirul Haque, President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI), attended the closing session as chief guest and distributed certificates among participants. He said Bangladesh would face significant challenges following LDC graduation, particularly for the banking sector and business community.
“We the businesses look forward to work with the government in formulating appropriate strategy to face the challenges after graduation,” Haque said, adding that participants had gained a clearer understanding of the actions required to prepare for future challenges.
ICCB Secretary General Ataur Rahman thanked banks for nominating their officials for the workshop and acknowledged Eastern Bank and Prime Bank for nominating some of their clients to participate.
The workshop focused on international trade financing issues following LDC graduation, with discussions aimed at helping participants understand the measures needed to address emerging challenges in trade and finance.
