The Sylhet Education Board has served show-cause notices on four college teachers, who moderated the Physics (Theory) First Paper question for the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations, following the detection of errors and inconsistencies in the paper.
According to an official letter issued by the board on Tuesday, the teachers were asked to explain why departmental action should not be taken against them over the mistakes.
The teachers are Professor Md Mujibur Rahman of the Physics Department at Sreemangal Government College, Assistant Professor Kazi Junayed Al Amin of Brindaban Government College in Habiganj, Assistant Professor Mochaddek Hossain Khan of Sylhet MC College, and Lecturer Mohammad Helal Uddin of Sylhet Government Model School and College.
The board said discrepancies were identified in Questions 6 and 7 of the creative section of the Physics (Theory) First Paper examination held on the morning of 13 July.
According to the notices, the errors caused significant mental distress among examinees during the examination and reflected serious professional negligence on the part of those responsible for moderating the question paper.
The board also said the incident had harmed its reputation and described the oversight as a gross failure in carrying out moderation responsibilities.
The four teachers have been asked to submit written explanations within three working days of receiving the notices, explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against them over the errors in the examination paper.
