HSC and equivalent examinees who could not attend their scheduled examinations due to adverse weather or other unavoidable circumstances will be given another opportunity to take those papers, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon told parliament on Wednesday.
Making a statement under Rule 300, the minister said the decision was taken considering the significance of the HSC examination in students’ academic careers.
He said a total of 12,70,583 candidates are participating in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations at 2,697 centres across the country.
The minister said examinations have already been postponed in five districts under the Chattogram Education Board due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The affected districts are Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban.
He added that apart from the Chattogram Education Board areas, some candidates in Dhaka and other districts were also unable to appear in their scheduled examinations because of bad weather and other unavoidable situations.
“Candidates who missed any subject’s examination in the ongoing HSC and equivalent exams due to adverse weather or other unavoidable reasons will be allowed to sit for those papers on the same date and at the same time set by the Education Ministry for the postponed examinations under the Chattogram Education Board,” the minister said.
He added that the same question papers would be used for the rescheduled examinations of the respective subjects.
Addressing the controversy over the Physics First Paper examination, Milon said officials involved in preparing the faulty question paper had already been suspended.
He assured examinees that full marks would be awarded for Questions 6 and 7 of the Physics First Paper, where errors were detected.
The minister reiterated that the government would ensure that no student suffers due to errors in the examination process or circumstances beyond their control.
