Home Ministry on Saturday strongly protested the circulation of a fake or AI-generated audio clip in the name of Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on social media, including Facebook.
“This is not the voice of the Home Adviser; it is an AI-generated or otherwise distorted voice. Anyone familiar with his voice will understand that it is fake,” the ministry said in a statement, reports BSS.
The ministry warned that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible once identified. It also urged all to stop creating and spreading such fabricated content, cautioning that otherwise action would be taken under the law.
According to the statement, a 25-second fake audio was circulated from various Facebook accounts, including one under the name ‘Ismail Chowdhury Samrat’, in which the Home Adviser could allegedly be heard giving instructions to a police officer regarding former DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur.
The Home Ministry described the act of creating and spreading such fabricated audio as a threat to law and order, saying it spreads rumours and deprives people of real and truthful information.
