Two people were killed when a pick-up van was hit from behind by a vehicle on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Sujan, 37, the pick-up van driver from Jashore, and his helper Ichharul from Khulna.
The incident occurred near the Nimtala underpass in Sirajdikhan upazila around 2am.
Police and fire service officials said the van, which was carrying raw materials, was struck from the rear by another vehicle. The van then hit the side-lane railing after the driver lost control of the steering.
The front portion of the van was severely mangled in the collision, leaving the driver and helper dead on the spot.
Sreenagar Fire Service Station Officer Dewan Azad said that upon receiving information, a team rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex.
Niloy, a physician at the hospital’s emergency department, declared them dead.
