A high-level meeting is scheduled for Sunday to strengthen government initiatives aimed at preventing road accidents and enhancing overall safety across the country’s road network.
Organised by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the meeting will commence at 11am on 29 March, in the conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam will chair the session, according to a ministry notification issued Friday.
The meeting will also be attended by Habibur Rashid, state minister for Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Railways, and Mir Shah Alam, state minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
The session follows a high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on 24 March, during which emergency directives were issued to relevant ministries and agencies regarding road safety and the improvement of traffic management in Dhaka city.
Sunday’s meeting is intended to review the progress of those decisions and ensure their timely implementation.
Under the guidance of prime minister, the meeting is considered crucial for reducing traffic congestion in the capital, ensuring road safety, and bringing about fundamental reforms to the overall communication system.
Through the active participation of all relevant departments, agencies, and stakeholders, the government aims to reach effective decisions for rapid execution.
Officials stated that the government remains committed to taking coordinated and effective measures to reduce accidents, improve passenger services, and establish discipline on the roads.
