A Dhaka court on Saturday granted bail to Hero Alom on a Tk 200 bond in a case filed by his former wife Riya Moni, who accused him of attempted murder, assault and theft of a gold chain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan passed the order hours after Hatirjheel police arrested him in the afternoon.
Earlier, on 12 November, the court had issued an arrest warrant against him after he allegedly violated bail conditions by failing to appear before the court.
According to the case statement, a recent dispute between the two led Hero Alom to divorce Riya Moni and force her out of the house.
On 21 June, she was asked to come to a house in the Hatirjheel area to “resolve” the issue. When she arrived with her family, Hero Alom and 10–12 unidentified individuals allegedly hurled abusive language at her.
The complaint further states that the accused and a group of men later unlawfully entered her current residence and attacked her with wooden sticks, targeting her head and other parts of her body with the intent to kill.
She was left bruised and injured. During the assault, the attackers allegedly stole a gold chain weighing “two bhori” from her neck.
Riya Moni filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on 23 June.
