Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon his party’s leaders and activists to extend their hands of cooperation to the helpless people according to their individual capacity.
“Let us take an oath. From our respective positions, we will try to extend our hands of cooperation to the helpless according to our capacity. Let this be our expectation today. Let this be our success,” he said.
The prime minister made the call in a brief speech on Saturday evening after distributing warm clothes and dry food among the destitute in front of the party’s central office at Nayapaltan in the capital. The distribution programme was organised on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the party’s founder, former president Ziaur Rahman.
Addressing BNP leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman said, “Those of you who have been associated with the party for a long time know that since the martyrdom of Shaheed Zia, we have tried to stand by the helpless on this day. On this day, we have tried as much as we can for those who are in difficulty in various places.”
“I call upon you not only from the party, but those of you who can should also try to stand by the helpless on your own personal initiative. This is the teaching of Shaheed Zia,” the prime minister added.
Senior party leaders, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, were present at the event.
Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, North Convener Aminul Haque, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, North Administrator Shafiqul Alam Milton, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani and General Secretary Rajiv Ahsan, Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal President Rakibul Islam Rakib, and Dhaka Metropolitan Sramik Dal Convener Sumon Bhuiya and Member Secretary Badrul Alam Sabuj, among others, also attended.
