Heatwave continues, rain and storms expected in some areas

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in some parts of the country, even as a heatwave continues.

On Tuesday, mild to moderate heat waves (36–40°C) are affecting Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Khulna divisions. Higher-than-normal temperatures are also being recorded in Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Cumilla, and Jashore.

There is a chance of rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds today in parts of seven districts including Sirajganj, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, and Thakurgaon. 

Wind speeds may reach 45–60km/h or higher.

People are advised to stay indoors during lightning and to seek shelter if they are outside.

According to the Met office, these storms and thunderstorms are early signs of the upcoming monsoon, expected in late May or early June.

The arrival of the monsoon may also help reduce the intensity of the heatwave.
