The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has instructed civil surgeons to ensure sufficient supply of snakebite antivenom at government hospitals in all upazila levels across the country on Saturday.
Petitioner lawyer Advocate Mir AKM Nurunnabi confirmed the matter. Additionally, each upazila sadar has been directed to stock the antivenom in at least two pharmacies.
Earlier, on 17 August, the High Court ordered that adequate antivenom be provided at government hospitals in all upazilas.
The Health Secretary, the Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration, and other concerned officials were ordered to implement this directive.
The order was issued by the HC bench of Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Syed Zahed Mansur during the preliminary hearing of a public interest petition on 18 August.
Nurunnabi represented the petition during the hearing, assisted by Advocate Ismail Hossain. On the state side, Deputy Attorney General Shafiqur Rahman and Tanim Khan, along with Assistant Attorney General Ekramul Kabir, appeared.
