Eastern Bank (EBL) PLC has appointed Hassan O Rashid as its Managing Director, marking a return to the bank where he previously served in a senior leadership role.
He assumed charge on 20 April, bringing more than 31 years of experience across local and multinational banks.
Before joining Eastern Bank, Hassan served as Chief Executive Officer of Prime Bank PLC.
His career includes senior leadership positions at Crédit Agricole Indosuez, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank, with experience spanning multiple banking domains.
Hassan earlier worked at Eastern Bank as Additional Managing Director from 2015 to 2021, where he played a key role in strengthening the bank’s position as a leading financial institution.
During that period, the bank doubled its balance sheet, expanded its trade finance portfolio and introduced financial instruments such as commercial papers and zero-coupon bonds.
Over his career, he has also contributed to financing major infrastructure projects, developing SME banking as a growth driver and strengthening operational risk management frameworks.
Hassan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Capital University, USA, and a master’s degree in international management from the Garvin School of International Management, Thunderbird, USA.
He received the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award and holds a Credit Professional certification from Omega, UK.
He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh and is a member of the Rotary Club of Ramna and Kurmitola Golf Club.
He is also a past President of the St Joseph Old Boys’ Association.
Outside his professional responsibilities, he is engaged in golfing and long-distance running.
