Residents of the capital experienced a sudden hailstorm followed by heavy rain on Friday evening, bringing some relief to city life shortly after the Iftar period.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted that the trend of rain and thundershowers is likely to continue across all eight divisions of the country for the next five days.
The hailstorm began shortly after 7:30pm on Friday, followed by heavy downpours that were still ongoing at the time of reporting.
According to the BMD, these weather conditions are the result of an extension of a low-pressure system situated over West Bengal and its surrounding areas. The department also warned that gusty winds could blow in various parts of the country during this period.
In its 120-hour forecast effective from 6pm on Friday, the BMD stated that a seasonal low-pressure system is currently positioned over the South Bay of Bengal.
Under its influence, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning are expected in several places within the Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Additionally, one or two places in the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions may experience similar weather.
During this five-day period, both day and night temperatures across the country may see a slight increase.
Specific data for the capital shows that relative humidity in Dhaka was recorded at 57 percent at 6pm on Friday. At that time, winds were blowing from the West or South-West at speeds of 8 to 12 km/h, with gusts from the West or North-West reaching between 30 and 40 km/h.
