Premier League leaders Arsenal maintained their strong start to the season with a comfortable 2-0 win at Burnley on Sunday, stretching their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions.
Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice secured the victory – their fifth consecutive league win – as Mikel Arteta’s side moved seven points clear at the top, though they have played one more game than some of their closest rivals.
Burnley, who had won their previous two matches, proved difficult to break down early on. Arsenal, however, capitalised on their set-piece strength, taking the lead when Gyokeres fired in from close range from Rice’s corner.
Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made a smart one-handed save to deny Bukayo Saka, while Leandro Trossard had a shot cleared off the line. Arsenal doubled their advantage before half-time as Rice powered a header from Trossard’s chipped delivery.
After the break, Burnley enjoyed more possession and came close to a goal when Florentino Luis headed over from close range. Marcus Edwards struck the post from a free-kick in the final moments, but Arsenal’s defence held firm.
The win marked Arsenal’s eighth in 10 Premier League games this season, while Burnley remain 17th, four points above the relegation zone.
