Kendrick Lamar has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2026 Grammy Awards, leading the field with nine nominations.
Following his sweeping success at last year’s ceremony, Lamar returns with his acclaimed album ‘GNX’ and hit single ‘Luther’, both strong contenders in the top categories.
Lady Gaga secured seven nominations, her highest ever, tying with producers Jack Antonoff and Cirkut. Rising star Leon Thomas scored an impressive six nods, matching Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter and engineer Serban Ghenea.
Bad Bunny’s recognition marks a breakthrough for Latin music, earning him nominations for Album, Record and Song of the Year, a notable shift from his previous Grammy omissions. He joins Lamar, Gaga and Carpenter as the only artists competing in all three major categories.
Carpenter also makes a swift return to the spotlight with Man’s Best Friend, securing nominations across the top fields. Meanwhile, hits from Billie Eilish and Chappell Roan keep the pop category competitive, even as Taylor Swift’s blockbuster The Life of a Showgirl missed eligibility.
Hip-hop dominated the nominations despite a quieter commercial year, with Doechii, Clipse, Tyler, the Creator and SZA each earning five nods.
Rock act Turnstile and producers Andrew Watt and Sounwave also landed five apiece.
Country music, however, saw limited representation, with genre heavyweights such as Morgan Wallen and Megan Moroney absent from the major categories, a recurring issue for Nashville artists.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will air live on CBS and Paramount+ on 1 February, celebrating a year where hip-hop, Latin pop and female artistry take centre stage.
