Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured on Saturday that government will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman upon his return to the country.
“There is no apprehension regarding his security. We will arrange every possible measure to ensure his safety,” he said.
Jahangir made the remarks while addressing journalists after a Core Committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
His comments come ahead of Tarique Rahman’s much-anticipated return to Bangladesh on 25 December, marking the end of his 17-year stay abroad and years of speculation surrounding his homecoming.
‘Operation Devil Hunt’ phase two launched
Jahangir announced the immediate commencement of the second phase of “Operation Devil Hunt.”
He directed authorities to intensify the operation to apprehend those responsible for the attack on Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi.
The home adviser emphasised that the operation must be strengthened to ensure the capture of the perpetrators.
“The second phase of Operation Devil Hunt will begin immediately, and we will increase our efforts to target the fascist terrorists involved,” he said.
Tk50 lakh cash reward for info on Hadi’s assailants
The home adviser also revealed a cash reward of Tk 50 lakh for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the assailants responsible for attacking Osman Hadi.
He reiterated the interim government’s commitment to protecting key political figures, such as the July warriors, and highlighted that special security measures have been put in place for their safety.
The home adviser condemned the attack on Osman Hadi, asserting that the government would ensure the swift capture of those involved.
“We have instructed law enforcement agencies to arrest those responsible for this attack. No individual involved in this assault will escape justice,” he stated, underscoring the government’s firm stance on the issue.
Regarding the motive behind the assault, Jahangir indicated that the attack may be an attempt to destabilise the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.
“The government will not allow any attempts to disrupt the national election and will take strict action against such activities,” he affirmed.
Osman Hadi, who was injured by assailants on motorcycles in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of Dhaka last Friday, is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital.
