The government will organise a three-day nationwide programme from 18 to 20 June across all 64 districts and 74 remote upazilas to mark Nazrul Year, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said on Sunday.
He made the announcement while speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on the observance of Nazrul Year.
The minister said the programmes will be held in celebration of the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
He noted that an earlier programme was organised in Trishal, Mymensingh on 23 May. At that event, he said, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman declared 25 May 2026 to 25 May 2027as “Nazrul Year”.
He said a national committee has already been formed to oversee the observance. A logo, posters and a calendar for Nazrul Year have also been prepared.
A commemorative postage stamp will be issued to mark the occasion, he added.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury said the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will coordinate the three-day programmes nationwide as the formal inauguration of Nazrul Year.
He said funds have been allocated from the current fiscal year budget to implement programmes in all 64 districts and 74 remote or special upazilas.
The minister also said the government plans year-long observance activities.
He said the celebration will not be limited to cultural events. The ministry will also take initiatives to encourage research on Nazrul’s literary works, music and other contributions.
He added that efforts are also being made through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Nazrul’s works internationally.
