The government is set to import 11 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes in July as part of its efforts to maintain a stable gas supply and meet the country’s growing energy demand.
Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) Director (Engineering) Md Rafiqul Islam said the 11 cargoes have already been confirmed for delivery during the month.
“The government has finalised the import of 11 LNG cargoes in July to ensure uninterrupted gas supply,” he said on Wednesday.
He said the LNG would be procured through a combination of spot market purchases, long-term contracts and short-term agreements.
Each shipment is expected to contain an average of about 3.2 million British thermal units (MMBtu) of LNG.
According to Petrobangla, the first cargo is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on 6 or 7 July, while the remaining consignments are expected to reach the country later this month.
In June, Bangladesh imported nine LNG cargoes through the spot market as well as long-term and short-term contracts, totalling approximately 28.8 million MMBtu.
