The government has withdrawn medals awarded to seven officers of the Bangladesh Police, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), four Superintendents of Police (SP), two Additional Superintendents of Police (ASP), and one Inspector.
These medals were awarded between 2013 and 2023.
The decision was announced in a circular issued on Sunday by Tauseef Ahmed, deputy secretary of the Police-2 branch under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the notification, the medals were revoked as departmental proceedings are underway against the officers for abandoning their posts without authorization.
The officers whose medals have been rescinded are Md Anisur Rahman, former DIG of Rajshahi Range (currently attached to the River Police in Dhaka); Kazi Moniruzzaman, SP attached to Rangpur Range; Md Nazmul Islam, SP of Barisal Range; Hafiz Al-Faruk, SP currently serving at the Police Academy in Sardah; Rajib Das, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police; Md Julhaz Uddin, an ASP posted at RAB-14 in Mymensingh and Inspector serving with APBn-13 Md Julhaz Uddin
The circular further stated that all financial benefits linked to the medals have been discontinued. Additionally, the recipients have been instructed to return any monetary rewards previously received in relation to the medals.
