The government has proposed a budget allocation of Tk5,196 crore for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs for the 2026–27 fiscal year, aimed at expanding social protection measures and supporting women and child development.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed budget in Parliament on Thursday, emphasising that these initiatives form a cornerstone of the government’s social development agenda.
Under the plan, 20 modern daycare centres will be established in the first phase to support working women, with an additional 60 centres planned in the subsequent phase.
Rehabilitation and social security programmes will also be strengthened for returning women migrant workers, ensuring their reintegration and protection.
The Vulnerable Women Benefit (VGD) programme will provide 30 kilograms of rice per month to 10.4 lakh women, helping secure their livelihoods and reduce vulnerability.
To combat violence against women and children, Quick Response Teams will be further empowered to take swift action, while long-term rehabilitation programmes will support street children and other vulnerable minors.
Additionally, 33 Integrated Child Rehabilitation Centres across 17 districts will remain operational, providing comprehensive care and protection for underprivileged and vulnerable children.
