The government has announced a reward of up to Taka one lakh for anyone providing verified information on illegal fuel hoarding or smuggling, an official statement said.
According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, informers who supply accurate details to local authorities about unlawful stockpiling or smuggling of fuel will be eligible for the incentive.
According to a press release, the move aims to strengthen monitoring and curb irregularities in the country’s fuel supply chain.
It is noted that the identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential. The respective district commissioner will ensure that the informers receive the reward. The financial incentive is open to all individuals, organisations, and institutions.
To maintain uninterrupted supply of fuel to consumers at government-fixed prices and to curb illegal stockpiling, the BPC’s initiatives are being implemented with the support of the district administration, with a letter sent to the Cabinet Division for coordination.
The government expects that this measure will make the public more alert and aware of illegal hoarding and smuggling, thereby significantly preventing artificial shortages caused by such activities.
