The government has left retail prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane unchanged for July, extending the rates fixed in May, while reducing furnace oil prices used in electricity generation by Tk4.44 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on Tuesday, diesel and kerosene will continue to sell at Tk115 per litre, octane at Tk145 per litre and petrol at Tk140 per litre from 1 July. The prices, first fixed through a notification issued on 31 May, will remain in force throughout July with the approval of the competent authority.
The decision follows a proposal from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and comes as the government continues its monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism based on international market movements.
In a separate notification, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced a reduction in furnace oil prices by Tk4.44 per litre. The new rate has been set at Tk109.10 per litre, down from Tk113.54, effective from 1 July.
The adjustment is expected to slightly ease electricity generation costs, particularly for furnace oil-based power plants, at a time when parts of the country, especially rural areas, are experiencing persistent load-shedding amid high temperatures and rising demand.
According to BERC, the July 2026 price revision was determined based on changes in May–June crude oil free-on-board (FOB) prices and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate.
