The state-owned Petrobangla has clarified that the government has no current plan or decision to increase gas prices.
In a message issued on Saturday night, the corporation addressed public confusion arising from reports in various media outlets regarding a potential price hike. Petrobangla stated that there is presently no such government initiative or decision.
Urging all concerned not to be misled by such news, Petrobangla added that any future decision regarding gas price adjustments would be formally announced following the proper process.
The clarification comes amidst widespread rumors of a price hike triggered by recent discussions on gas shortages, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) supply disruptions, and financial pressures in the energy sector.
The country has faced a long-term increase in import dependency as domestic gas field production has declined. To meet demand, the government must import expensive LNG, which has led to an increase in subsidies within the gas sector.
