The BNP-led government has officially directed all ministries and divisions to prepare and implement short, medium, and long-term action plans in line with the party’s election manifesto, officials have confirmed.
Following discussions led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Cabinet Division has issued letters to the senior secretaries of 51 ministries, along with various departments and directorates, outlining the government’s policy direction for the next five years.
The move comes after the BNP’s landslide victory in the 12 February national election, which the party believes was a public mandate to implement its electoral pledges.
In recent meetings with cabinet members and senior officials, Tarique Rahman has reiterated that the people voted for the Sheaf of Paddy based on the manifesto it had presented prior to the election. BNP must now work according to those promises, he added.
In a letter sent to all ministries, the Cabinet Division has urged concerned authorities to formulate specific action plans in sectors under their jurisdiction and take immediate steps for implementation. The directive covers key areas outlined in the manifesto, including health, education, women’s education, employment generation, and sports development.
Multiple ministers confirmed that the PM has been holding back-to-back meetings since the cabinet was formed- both at the Secretariat and his Tejgaon office – to ensure the manifesto pledges are translated into action.
During an exchange of views with officials at his Tejgaon office on Saturday, Tarique reiterated the need for a collective effort to improve the lives of citizens.
“The security of the people must be ensured by us. The nation is looking towards the government. If the people are well, the government will be well,” he told officials.
The prime minister has also sought cooperation from government officials and employees in executing the agendas, stressing that every ministry must communicate the government’s vision to citizens at the grassroots level.
The Cabinet Division’s directive requires ministries to develop both short-term and long-term strategies, ensuring that the electoral commitments made to the public are fulfilled within the government’s five-year term.
