The government on Thursday decided to restore observance of 7 November as ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, declaring it a public holiday.
The decision was announced by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani at a briefing at the Secretariat following a Cabinet meeting.
He said, “It has been decided that 7 November will be declared as National Revolution and Solidarity Day as it was before. It will be a public holiday, as it used to be.”
The day will be observed as a Category “Ka” national observance, the Cabinet Secretary added, noting that it had not been marked in this manner for the past 16 years.
He also announced that 6 July has been designated as ‘National Rural Development Day’, classified as a Category “B” observance, meaning it will not be a public holiday but will be formally observed.
The Cabinet meeting also discussed several policy matters, including the proposed Renewable Energy Policy-2025 and measures to attract investment in the sector.
According to government plans, Bangladesh aims to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity from solar power by 2030.
The Cabinet Secretary said the target would be implemented using government land, with private sector participation encouraged for large-scale projects.
He added that a committee would be formed soon to streamline policy implementation and facilitate investment in the renewable energy sector.
Nasimul Gani further noted that the government is shifting focus towards large-scale ground-mounted solar projects due to limitations in rooftop solar expansion.
