Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal has said that the government remains firmly committed to establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary.
He said the law minister has already clearly presented the government’s position in Parliament on the matter, and expressed confidence in the government’s stance regarding the independence of the judiciary.
The attorney general made the remarks on Friday morning while speaking to journalists after a views-exchange meeting with local dignitaries at Kotchandpur Pilot Secondary School ground in Jhenaidah.
He said the High Court has delivered a verdict on the issue of a separate judiciary secretariat, but the judgment is not final as the matter is pending before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. The final decision, he said, will come through the appeal process.
Referring to recent political developments, he said people had expected the establishment of an anti-fascist state structure through the “July Revolution,” and the present government is committed to fulfilling that expectation. He added that steps are being taken to implement the spirit of July, including a protection policy for “July fighters.”
Commenting on the verdict in the murder case of Abu Sayeed, the attorney general said the tribunal delivered its judgment based on evidence and testimony.
He noted that any aggrieved party has the right to appeal within 30 days.
“An accused person always claims innocence, but grievances should be addressed through legal channels rather than media reactions,” he added.
The meeting was chaired by Kotchandpur Upazila BNP President Abdur Razzak. District Council Administrator and District BNP President MA Majid attended as a special guest.
Among others present were District BNP General Secretary Jahiduzzaman Mona, District Bar Association President Advocate Ekramul Alam, District BNP Vice President Abubakar Biswas, Kotchandpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Enamul Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Kotchandpur Police Station Md Asaduzzaman, Upazila BNP General Secretary Liaquat Ali, and former VP of KMH College Abdus Sabur Khan, along with local BNP leaders and activists.
