The government on Wednesday approved the import of 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser from Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops S.A. under a government-to-government arrangement with Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
The approval came at the 48th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held at the Cabinet Division in the capital, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
Ministry of Agriculture placed the proposal for importing the fertiliser through the direct procurement method. Under the proposal, the DAP fertiliser will be procured from OCP Nutricrops at a price of $866 per tonne.
Total procurement cost has been estimated at around Tk427.81 crore for the 40,000 tonnes.
The CCGP recommended approval of the proposal, according to the meeting documents.
This procurement is expected to help maintain an adequate supply of fertiliser for the country’s agricultural sector.
