The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Thursday approved the import of three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes and 2 crore litres of refined soybean oil to meet domestic demand.
The approvals came at the committee’s 20th meeting of the year held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
According to officials, the government approved the purchase of the three LNG cargoes from the international spot market at a combined estimated cost of Tk21,863.54 crore.
Under the arrangement, Singapore-based suppliers Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, BP Singapore Pte Ltd and Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd will supply the cargoes.
The LNG shipments are scheduled to arrive between 8 June and 15 June.
The committee also approved the import of 2 crore litres of refined soybean oil from Indonesia’s PT Trinity Cahya Energy at a cost of Tk282.57 crore.
A total of 11 proposals were placed before the meeting.
Of them, 10 were approved while one proposal was withdrawn.
