The government has appointed Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the new Cabinet Secretary.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.
As per the instruction of the president, Nasimul Gani has been appointed Cabinet Secretary on a contractual basis while serving as Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The order issued in the public interest takes immediate effect, the gazette stated.
Earlier on Saturday, the contractual appointment of Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid was cancelled. At the same time, a gazette notification was issued assigning Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary M Siraj Uddin Mia to the post with additional responsibility alongside his own duties.
Nasimul Gani, son of renowned novelist and journalist Osman Gani, is known as an honest, skilled, and efficient officer from the 1982 batch of the administration cadre. After studying at Mirzapur Cadet College, he obtained a master’s degree in economics from Dhaka University.
In his career, Nasimul Gani served as Deputy Commissioner of Jamalpur and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj. He also worked in foreign missions in Iraq and Jordan. In addition, he served as Director General of Bangladesh Television and NIPORT, Personal Secretary to former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Md Jamir Uddin Sarkar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and Personal Secretary to the President.
He earned distinction as Director General at the Prime Minister’s Office and made significant contributions to improving physical infrastructure in schools, colleges, and madrasas while serving at the Ministry of Education.
On 22 December 2024, Nasimul Gani was appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Before that, he was Senior Secretary of the Public Division at the President’s Office.
In 2009, after the Awami League government assumed power, he was sent into compulsory retirement. However, following the fall of the Awami League-led government, he was reinstated into the administration.
