The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has announced a significant reduction in gold prices in the domestic market. The price of the finest quality 22-carat gold has been slashed by Tk3,266 per bhori (11.664 grams).
According to a press release issued by BAJUS on Monday morning, the new rates are effective from 10am. The association noted that the adjustment follows a decline in the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) in the local market.
Under the revised pricing, a bhori of 22-carat gold will now cost Tk2,25,290. Additionally, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk2,15,142 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk1,84,758 per bhori, and gold sold through the traditional method at Tk1,50,932 per bhori.
BAJUS stated that these prices will remain in effect across all jewellery outlets until further notice. While the base price is fixed, making charges will be applied based on the specific design of the ornament.
The association also clarified that as VAT is already included in the final selling price of gold jewellery, no additional VAT can be collected from customers at the retail level.
This latest revision marks the 83rd adjustment to gold prices in the country so far this year. Of these, prices were increased on 41 occasions and decreased 41 times, with one adjustment made specifically for VAT. The most recent price coordination prior to today occurred on the morning of 27 June.
