International leaders have congratulated Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairman Tarique Rahman following the party’s decisive victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
According to the latest results released by the Election Commission, the BNP secured 209 seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 68 seats. With a two-thirds majority, the BNP is now preparing to form the government.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi expressed his delight in speaking with the son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, stating he conveyed his best wishes and support for Rahman’s efforts to meet the expectations of the Bangladeshi people.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace, progress, and prosperity, noting the “deep historical and cultural bonds” between the two neighbouring nations.
The United Kingdom on Friday congratulated BNP Tarique Rahman on the party’s election victory and said it is ready to work with the new government on economic growth, migration, climate action and security cooperation.
The message was issued by the British High Commission Dhaka.
“Congratulations to Tarique Rahman and the BNP on your election victory, and to the people of Bangladesh as the country enters a new chapter,” the statement said.
UK said it looks forward to working with the new government on shared priorities, including economic growth, migration, climate action and security cooperation.
The statement reflects the United Kingdom’s continued engagement with Bangladesh as a close development and strategic partner.
The US Embassy in Dhaka congratulated the people of Bangladesh on a successful election and the BNP and Tarique Rahman on their “historic victory”.
In a post on its verified Facebook page on Friday, the embassy expressed the United States’ eagerness to work with the new administration to achieve shared goals of prosperity and security.
China also extended its greetings via the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, congratulating the Bangladeshi people on the successful conduct of the election and the BNP for its leading position.
Similarly, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sent a warm message on Friday, describing the BNP’s “unprecedented electoral victory” as a “victory for democracy”. He remarked that the people of Bangladesh had clearly delivered their verdict through the ballot box despite facing numerous challenges.
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both congratulated Rahman.
President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for democratic partnership and mutual progress, while Prime Minister Sharif lauded the BNP’s significant victory and the successful holding of the general election.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki has congratulated Bangladesh on the successful completion of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and extended special greetings to Tarique Rahman for leading BNP to victory.
In a message shared on social media, the Nepali premier conveyed warm wishes to the government and people of Bangladesh, describing the election as a reflection of the country’s strong democratic process.
Furthermore, Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu congratulated Tarique Rahman on the “extraordinary victory” and expressed his hope for further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
