At least 12 supporters of BNP were injured and several homes vandalised following a dispute over voting inside a mosque in Saltha upazila of Faridpur on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place around 2:30pm in Ramkantapur village under Ramkantapur union.

Police and members of the Bangladesh Army later arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a verbal altercation broke out during Friday prayers at a local mosque between supporters of BNP leader Kuddus Talukdar and those of 11-party alliance leader Rabiul Talukdar over voting-related issues.

After prayers, supporters of both sides gathered in front of the mosque, where tensions escalated into violence.

Witnesses alleged that supporters of Rabiul Talukdar attacked BNP supporters and vandalised at least six houses belonging to BNP activists.

Several of the injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, while others received primary treatment.

Efforts to contact Kuddus Talukdar and Rabiul Talukdar for comment were unsuccessful.

Confirming the incident, Saltha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Babulur Rahman Khan said law enforcement agencies responded promptly after receiving reports and restored order. Legal action is under process, he added.
