Gas supply across the country is expected to return to normal within the next two to three days following the restart of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood said on Thursday.

The minister said a technical problem with the FSRU had disrupted gas supply, but the issue was resolved on Thursday afternoon.

“Gas transmission will gradually resume, and pressure in the gas network will improve step by step,” he told reporters at his ministry office.

Asked when the situation would fully normalise, Tuku said it would require at least two to three days to overcome the current shortage.

The temporary disruption in gas supply affected electricity generation across the country, causing increased load shedding as several power plants had to suspend operations due to the shortage, he said.

On complaints of unusually high electricity bills, the minister urged consumers to submit their bills for verification.

“Authorities requested consumers to provide their bills for checking, but many did not follow the instruction,” he said, adding that electricity tariffs had been revised for the June-July billing period.

The minister also mentioned his recent meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi, saying the discussion focused on bilateral issues of mutual interest.

“It was a routine diplomatic meeting. I have met many ambassadors before. As India is our neighbouring country, there are several areas of shared interest, and those matters were discussed,” he said.
