Fuel sales under a new mandatory ‘Fuel Card’ system have officially commenced across Chuadanga district.
Following a government directive, vehicle owners and drivers are now required to use these cards to purchase necessary fuel, with the system becoming operational at various filling stations from 7am on Wednesday.
Under the new regulations, no customer is permitted to purchase fuel oil without the government-designated ‘Fuel Card’.
However, special relaxations have been implemented for farmers to ensure they face no hurdles in their agricultural activities.
The decision was formalised during a meeting concerning the storage, transport, marketing, and usage of fuel oil held last Sunday at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. During the session, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain announced that fuel would not be supplied to anyone without a card from 1 April.
To facilitate the transition, the district administration initially scheduled card distribution for 30 March and 31. However, the period was extended by a further two days to ensure the completion of the distribution process.
The fuel distribution programme is being carried out simultaneously at 22 filling stations across four upazilas of the district. While general distribution remains active daily from 7am to 8pm, a special provision allows farmers to collect diesel from the pumps 24 hours a day.
To ensure the disciplined and accurate distribution of fuel, the authorities have appointed a ‘tag officer’ at each filling station, who will work alongside police personnel to monitor the process.
