A day-long free medical camp was held today in the remote Shushua Char of Arjuna Union under Bhuapur Upazila of Tangail district, located in Jamuna River basin.
Organised by Human Concern America, the camp provided healthcare services to approximately 300 local men, women, and children through experienced and skilled doctors.
The beneficiaries received treatment and advice for general ailments, women and child health issues, and skin and sexual diseases. Additionally, blood pressure, diabetes, and weight measurements were taken, and essential medicines were distributed free of charge.
At noon, the medical camp was visited by international relations and political commentator Sami Hamdi, Human Consult International Global CEO Mahmuda Khan, and Human Concern America CEO Masum Mahbub.
Several national and international media representatives were also present during the visit.
Bachir Kha, a 70-year-old resident, said he had been suffering from pain in his arm for a long time. “To see a doctor, we usually have to cross the river by boat to go to Bhuapur or Sirajganj,” Kha said, adding that he saw a doctor and received medicines free of charge today, which made him feel very good.

Another beneficiary, Zorina Begum, 60, shared that she has had waist and leg pain for a long time. “Due to a lack of money, I could not go to the city to see a doctor,” Begum said, expressing happiness at being able to consult a doctor and receive medicines for free today.
Sonia Islam Farin, a madrasa student, said she had been suffering from waist and abdominal pain for two to three years. Farin added that the pain did not subside despite seeing other doctors, which led her to seek treatment at the camp today.
Masum Mahbub, CEO of Human Concern America, highlighted that the primary objective of the free medical camp is to deliver healthcare services to the helpless and underprivileged people of society.
Mahbub explained that there is no proper healthcare system in the remote char villages of Bhuapur Upazila.
“With that in mind, we thought about how to provide free medical treatment to these people,” he said, adding that an initiative has been taken to provide medical services across four villages in the remote chars of Bhuapur.
On the first day of the campaign, free medical services were provided to 300 people of Shushua Char village.
