Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has resigned from the cabinet and been appointed Political Adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, with the status and privileges of a minister.
The Cabinet Division issued two separate notifications on Saturday confirming the changes.
In the first notification, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said President accepted Swapon’s resignation as Information and Broadcasting Minister.
A separate notification said Swapon had been appointed the prime minister’s political adviser under Rules 3B(1) and 3B(2) of the Rules of Business, 1996.
As political adviser, Swapon will receive the salary, allowances, benefits and other facilities attached to the office of a minister, according to the notification.
The move comes a day after the first reshuffle of the cabinet, in which Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho was assigned the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, replacing Swapon.
Partho and three other politicians were sworn in as full ministers at Bangabhaban on Friday evening.
