Former state minister and BNP central vice chairman Harun Al Rashid, a five-time Member of Parliament from Brahmanbaria-3, has died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
He passed away at around 9pm on Thursday at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital. He was 87.
Family sources said he had been suffering from age-related complications for several days and had been kept on life support.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers.
Confirming the death, Sirajul Islam, Administrator of Brahmanbaria Zila Parishad and general secretary of the district BNP, said Harun Al Rashid had been critically ill for some time and died while receiving treatment.
During his long political career, he was elected Member of Parliament multiple times. He also served as state minister in different ministries and held key positions in the party’s central leadership.
His funeral prayer (Janaza) will be held at 10:30am on Friday at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex.
