A former additional director of Bangladesh Bank died after being electrocuted while trying to switch on a motor during rain at his residence in Shanir Akhra, Dhaka.
Rezaul Karim, 62, was taken unconscious to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm Sunday behind Chhapra Mosque in the Bank Colony area.
His brother‑in‑law AKM Abdullahi Baki said Karim retired from Bangladesh Bank one and a half years ago. Karim, father of two sons, lived in his own three‑storey house in Shanir Akhra.
According to Baki, rainwater had accumulated on the ground floor of the house Sunday night. After Esha prayers, Karim attempted to start the motor while standing in the water and was electrocuted.
With no one nearby at the time, he was found later and taken first to a local hospital, then to DMCH, said Inspector Md Faruk, in‑charge of the hospital’s police camp.
The body has been kept in the morgue, he added.
