Minister for the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Food Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has stated that ensuring food security for a nation is the most crucial account of its wealth.
The Minister made these remarks during an exchange of views with journalists at the Cumilla Circuit House on Saturday afternoon.
The Minister said, “The ultimate account of wealth, development, and progress ultimately lies within food security. No matter how much wealth and assets people acquire, appeasing hunger is the fundamental truth of life.” He stated, “The responsibility for food production, fish, meat, and egg production is extremely important and deeply intertwined with national interest. The heritage of Cumilla is also an important factor behind entrusting this responsibility.”
The minister said, “Bangladesh’s modern irrigation-based agricultural production began in Cumilla, pioneered by Akhtar Hamid Khan. His initiative started cooperative-based irrigation and agricultural development programmes, which later became a model to be emulated across the country.”
He stated, “Keeping that heritage and experience of Cumilla in mind, I will demonstrate utmost sincerity and dedication in performing my duties to ensure more sustainable development in the agriculture and food sectors.”
The minister said, “I established the first export-oriented factory in Cumilla. At that time, I received your encouragement and cooperation. Today, a kind of industrial revolution has occurred in Cumilla – countless factories have been established. This progress will continue in the future.”
In response to questions from journalists, he said that as a minister, he is committed to playing an effective role in the development of Cumilla, stating that he intends to play a pioneering role in implementing the long-standing public demand of the region: Declaring Cumilla a division.
Addressing journalists, he said, “I need your cooperation to conduct the activities of my respective ministries correctly and effectively. I believe that with your cooperation, I will be able to perform my duties even better.”
Present at the exchange meeting were Comilla’s District Commissioner Reza Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Malik, Cumilla BNP Metropolitan Branch General Secretary Yusuf Mollah Tipu, Adarsha Sadar Upazila BNP President Rezaul Kaiyum, and journalists from various media outlets.
On the occasion of the holy Ramadan, the Minister for the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, and Food, Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, inaugurated a program for selling milk, eggs, and meat at affordable prices at the Comilla Town Hall ground today at noon.
After the inauguration, he visited the sales stalls, inquired about the quality and prices of the products, and provided necessary guidance to those concerned so that ordinary people can get quality food items at fair prices during the month of Ramadan.
