In Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, content creation is no longer just a form of entertainment. It has become a viable career path, a business model, and a powerful tool for building personal brands. Among the emerging female content creators, Rothey Ahmed has built a distinct identity through her work in fashion, cooking, lifestyle, and everyday relatable content, especially among young audiences.
Rothey says that content creation is now being taken far more seriously than before. Earlier, many people considered it a waste of time, but now it is widely understood that it can lead to real careers. Many creators are earning through social media, building their own brands, and even establishing businesses. For young people in particular, she sees it as a major opportunity.
Speaking about women in content creation, she notes that there are now far more opportunities than before. Women are performing strongly in niches like fashion, beauty, cooking, travel, and lifestyle, and brands are increasingly eager to collaborate with them. However, she also points out ongoing challenges, especially online trolling and social judgement. Despite these challenges, she believes those who remain consistent and committed will have a strong future.
Reflecting on her journey, Rothey shares that she did not intentionally plan to enter this field. It began when people started asking for tutorials on her distinctive hijab styling. Although she was initially uncomfortable in front of the camera, encouragement from friends led her to start making videos, gradually shaping her journey as a creator.
To sustain relevance on social media, she emphasises consistency, a unique identity, strong presentation, and originality. According to her, simply following trends is not enough; creators must offer something that sets them apart and makes audiences recognise them instantly.
She also highlights negativity, cyberbullying, and the lack of quality content as major challenges in the digital space. Female creators, she says, often face these issues more intensely. Over time, she has learned to focus on her work rather than negative comments, filtering them out when necessary.
Rothey describes herself as someone who enjoys variety in content. She works across fashion, cooking, and lifestyle because she dislikes monotonous routines. Alongside content creation, she is also an entrepreneur, running an online fashion brand and a restaurant. Managing studies, content, and business simultaneously remains challenging, she admits.
For new creators, her advice is simple: do not create content just to go viral. Instead, focus on producing work that is useful, relatable, or enjoyable. She emphasises the importance of patience and passion, as long-term success seldom occurs overnight.
