Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasised the need for a strong social movement alongside legal measures to prevent the social menace of rape.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, he condemned recent rape incidents, describing them as a reflection of moral decline. “The incidents of rape, child abuse, and murder are not isolated; they are a horrifying reflection of years of moral decay, social irresponsibility, and the rapid decline of human values,” he said. “We are committed to making every possible effort against this inhumane crime.”
Fakhrul, who is also BNP Secretary General, said government initiatives and laws alone are insufficient. “What is needed is a strong national social movement. Families, schools, madrasas, teachers, religious leaders, the media, social organisations, and every citizen must come forward,” he said.
He stressed the importance of teaching children respect, humanity, responsibility, and the dignity of women. “Ensuring the safety of our children means securing the future of Bangladesh. Let us all join together in this struggle for change,” he added.
