A father and his son were killed after a pickup van hit their motorcycle in the Karnaphuli area of Chattogram on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Bidhan Mallick, 47, a biology teacher at Daulatpur Bohumukhi High School, and his father, Durgapada Mallick, 75. They were residents of Singhara village in Chatari union under Anwara upazila.
Abu Sayeed Baker, in-charge of Moijjartek Traffic Police confirmed the matter.
The incident occurred around 8am near the first set of stairs of the Karnaphuli New Bridge.
According to police and locals, they were travelling to their village home from the New Bridge area when a pickup van rammed their motorcycle. Durgapada died on the spot.
Bidhan was taken to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital in critical condition and later died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Nurul Islam, second officer of Karnaphuli Police Station, said police have seized the pickup van, while the driver fled the scene and legal action is underway.
