A man and his three-year-old daughter died, and four others injured in a fatal road accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Mirsarai upazila on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:30am near Thakurdi area, when a private car rammed into the back of a stationary covered van on the side of the highway.
The deceased have been identified as Golam Sarwar, 42, and his three-year-old daughter Muskan. The injured include Sarwar’s wife Umme Salma, 32, son Ahmed Imtiaz, 9, and two others—Sagar, 30 and the car’s driver Gias Uddin, 30.
All victims are residents of Sector 10, Uttara, in the capital Dhaka.
The four injured – whose names had not been released at the time of reporting – were promptly taken to a nearby health complex. Sagar and Gias, in critical condition, were later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Borhan Uddin of Jorarganj Highway Police confirmed the details, stating that preliminary findings suggest the driver of the car had fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the collision.
“Fire service teams, along with local residents, responded quickly to rescue the victims from the vehicle,” said Borhan Uddin. “Two were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.”
Authorities have since seized both vehicles, and legal proceedings are underway as part of the investigation.
According to local sources, the family was en route to Chattogram for a leisure trip when the crash occurred.
