Renowned filmmaker and Cultural Affairs Ministry adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki have undergone successful surgery for appendicitis. The operation took place on Sunday evening at Square Hospital in Dhaka, following a medical board’s recommendation earlier in the day.
Farooki’s wife, celebrated actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha, confirmed the news through a social media post. She wrote, “According to the decision made during the medical board meeting this afternoon, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has undergone appendix surgery. After nearly two hours in the operating room, doctors informed us that the surgery was successful, Alhamdulillah. He is currently under post-operative care and is on the path to recovery. We ask everyone to keep him in their prayers.”
The same message was later circulated to the media via WhatsApp by Mahbubur Rahman, Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, around 11 PM on Sunday.
Farooki fell ill during a four-day visit to Cox’s Bazar on Saturday evening. According to the local administration, he was staying at Hotel Ocean Paradise when he began experiencing chest and abdominal pain. Around 10:30 PM, he was airlifted to Dhaka for urgent medical attention.
Initially, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin suspected food poisoning. However, subsequent medical evaluation revealed that Farooki’s condition stemmed from physical stress and overwork.
Earlier on Sunday, officials from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs had announced the formation of a medical board for Farooki’s treatment. Tisha also urged the public not to be misled by any unverified reports.
Farooki remains under close observation and is expected to make a full recovery.
