Faridpur District Administrator Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Molla has requested the Election Commission to reconsider the inclusion of Algi and Hamirdi unions from Bhanga upazila into the Faridpur-4 national parliamentary constituency. The district administrator sent a letter to Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Akhtar Ahmed yesterday, Monday, making this appeal.
In the letter, the district administrator stated that the parliamentary boundaries of Faridpur-02 and Faridpur-04 have been redrawn. In the published list, two unions, Algi and Hamirdi, which were part of Faridpur-04, have been included in the Faridpur-02 national parliamentary constituency.
“Following the publication of the list, since September 4, 2025, the general public of Bhanga upazila, including Algi and Hamirdi unions, have been carrying out protest programmes, including blockades of highways and railways, demanding the cancellation of this constituency arrangement,” the letter went on to say. “As a result, the law-and-order situation has gradually deteriorated.”
It added that, “Most recently, on September 15, 2025, protesters vandalised and set fire to the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, the office of the Upazila Election Officer, Bhanga Police Station, the Highway Police Office, and government vehicles. Additionally, the protesters blocked roads and railways. Consequently, communication with 21 districts in the southern region was disrupted, causing severe suffering to the general public. The protesters have continued their programmes in support of their demands.”
The letter further mentioned that the people of the two constituencies have not accepted the redrawing of the parliamentary boundaries, which merged Algi and Hamirdi unions from Bhanga of Faridpur-04 (Bhanga, Sadarpur, and Char Bhadasan) with Faridpur-02. “People from all levels of these two constituencies are involved in this movement. In this context, if the matter of parliamentary constituency rearrangement is not reconsidered, there is a risk of a significant deterioration in the overall law and order situation,” the letter stated.
It concluded, “Under these circumstances, it is humbly requested to reconsider the delineation of boundaries for the national parliamentary constituencies and take necessary measures to reintegrate the two unions, Algi and Hamirdi from Bhanga upazila, which are currently part of national parliamentary constituency 212 Faridpur-02 (Nagarkanda and Saltha), back into national parliamentary constituency 214 Faridpur-04 (Bhanga, Sadarpur, and Char Bhadasan).”
