Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has been appointed Chairman of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission.
The Ministry of Law issued a gazette notification on Wednesday confirming the appointment.
According to the notification, the President made the appointment under Rule 3(2)(a) of the Judicial Service Commission Rules, 2007.
Justice Farah Mahbub is a distinguished jurist with a long career in the judiciary. She earned her LLB and LLM degrees from the Dhaka University and began her legal career as an advocate in the district courts in 1992.
She was enrolled as a lawyer of the High Court Division in 1994 and of the Appellate Division in 2002.
She was appointed an additional judge of the High Court Division on 23 August, 2004, and became a permanent judge two years later.
On 25 March, 2025, she took oath as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
The Judicial Service Commission plays a key role in the recruitment and administration of members of the judiciary.
