BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the government will hold discussions with banks to ensure low-interest loans for entrepreneurs involved in innovative projects.
He made the remarks on Friday morning while attending the inauguration of the ‘Suleman Solar Irrigation Pump’ as chief guest in the Malani area of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
Speaking at the event, Fakhrul said development should not be measured only by physical infrastructure.
“Development is not just about constructing roads, mosques or madrasas. True development is reflected in the increase of people’s income, the promotion of innovation, and the creation of successful entrepreneurs,” he said.
He added that sustainable progress depends on expanding employment opportunities alongside income generation for individuals.
In a lighter remark, the BNP leader urged people to focus on productivity and economic contribution rather than unnecessary distractions.
“There is no benefit in fighting over Argentina or Brazil. People need food in their stomachs; they need to innovate and do good business. That is real development,” he said.
Praising local innovator Suleman Ali, Fakhrul described him as the “pride of the country and its farmers”.
He noted that Ali, formerly a bicycle mechanic, had become an innovator by developing a solar-powered irrigation pump capable of meeting agricultural electricity needs.
Fakhrul said Ali had recently met him in Dhaka to brief him on the project, adding that many such innovators work quietly for national progress.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, local dignitaries and government officials.
