Veteran Bangladeshi actress Nasima Khan will be laid to rest on Thursday, following the return of her elder son from the United States, said Sony Rahman, organisational secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association.
Khan died at the age of 82 at around 7:30pm on Sunday, 11 October, while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Uttara, Dhaka.
According to Sony Rahman, her body was taken from Lubna Hospital in Uttara on Sunday night. After being washed, it was placed in a refrigerated vehicle before being moved to a hospital morgue on Monday morning.
Her elder son, Shabab Nasim Rahman, is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday, when the family will hold her funeral and burial. Her younger son, Nabil Nasir Rahman Kushal, has reportedly been missing for the past several months.
Born on 6 August, 1944, in Lalbagh, Old Dhaka, Khan began her film career as a leading actress in Je Nadi Moru Pathe.
She later became a recognised face in Bangladeshi cinema, appearing alongside notable actors such as Anwar Hossain, Hasan Imam, Rahman, Golam Mustafa and Azim.
Khan also appeared in films made in Lahore, then part of West Pakistan. Her notable works include Dharapaat, Kar Bou, Ujala, Begana, Dui Bhai and Dheuer Pare Dheu, as well as several Pakistani productions.
Following Bangladesh’s independence, she stepped away from cinema for a short period before returning to the entertainment industry as a television presenter.
After a long break from acting in films, she appeared in Kusum Kusum Prem in 2011, marking her final film role.
