Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday called for an integrated plan to accelerate development activities of the Local Government Engineering Department.
He made the call while addressing a review meeting on ongoing LGED projects at LGED Bhaban in Agargaon.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam attended the meeting as special guest.
He stressed that fostering patriotism and ensuring higher standards of work are essential to sustain the country’s development momentum.
He also emphasised the need to formulate and implement rural-based integrated development plans to improve the socio-economic conditions of local communities.
He said development initiatives can be made more effective by limiting the number of projects while expanding their geographical coverage.
He called for prioritising large-scale, integrated projects over scattered smaller ones to ensure optimal use of resources and more sustainable outcomes.
The meeting was chaired by Local Government Division Secretary Md Sohidul Hasan.
A documentary highlighting LGED’s history and ongoing activities was screened at the beginning of the meeting.
Among others, Local Government Engineering Department Chief Engineer Md Belal Hossain and Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Inspection Wing Director General Md Mahmudul Hasan were present.
Speakers at the meeting stressed improving project implementation quality, preventing wastage of public funds, and ensuring timely completion of development works.
